SCORE Miami-Dade Teams up with ACCION USA, BankUnited to Help Small Businesses
SCORE Miami-Dade (www.scoremiami.org) is teaming up with ACCION USA and BankUnited to help aspiring entrepreneurs realize their dreams.
MIAMI, FL, December 08, 2011 /Banking and Financial PR News/ -- SCORE Miami-Dade (www.scoremiami.org) is teaming up with ACCION USA and BankUnited to help aspiring entrepreneurs realize their dreams.
Candidates for microloans from ACCION USA in Miami-Dade County will take a series of five workshops created by SCORE. This workshop series, Simple Steps for Growing Your Business, empowers entrepreneurs with the tools to succeed in their new business ventures.
All ACCION USA clients in Miami Dade seeking microloans will be required to take Simple Steps. Graduates will receive a certification from SCORE, a resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
"Microlending is most effective when it's combined with SCORE workshops and mentoring," says Marjorie Weber, chair of SCORE Miami-Dade. "This is a pilot program that we hope to expand to other SCORE chapters served by ACCION USA."
The Simple Steps workshops will be offered at SCORE'S offices at Miami-Dade County Government Center, 111 N.W. 1st Street, in downtown Miami.
"We know SCORE will give our clients the assistance they need so they will be prepared to take the next steps in their business," said Fabiana Estrada, executive director for the nonprofit in Miami.
SCORE Miami-Dade is an all-volunteer nonprofit with 82 counselors who are business leaders, business owners and retired business professionals. The nonprofit offers free one-on-one mentoring and low-cost workshops throughout Miami-Dade County, teaming up the Doral Chamber of Commerce; the Economic Development Council of South Dade; The Launch Pad at the University of Miami; the Small Business Development offices of Miami-Dade County and Miami Dade College.
SCORE also works with the Bayside Foundation, a nonprofit that awards loans to minority-owned businesses. SCORE helps the foundation find qualified businesses and analyzes their loan applications.
SCORE is a nonprofit initiative of the Small Business Administration. The program features more than 12,500 volunteer business counselors nationwide.
