He also spent 10 years as a turnaround specialist, restructuring financially weak companies. Herbert also held management positions with national firms like CBS and Westinghouse Broadcasting.
During his educational career, Herbert earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business from Norwich University in 1962 and completed some graduate work towards his Master's Degree at the University of Virginia. He is a member of the Hauppauge Chamber of Commerce. Herbert also worked for three United States Presidents, serving as Advance Man for Richard Nixon as well as Consultant to the White House for Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.
